Alleged Drunken Driver Takes Out Downtown Traffic Lights

Crews this morning were repairing the traffic lights at the intersection of Main Street and Bailey and Ginty Boulevards this morning after an alleged drunken driver knocked them down just after 8 p.m., Thursday.

David Pierce, 51, of 86 Leonard Ave., Haverhill, was arrested at 8:25 p.m. on Bailey Boulevard. He was charged with driving under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene of property damage, negligent operation and a marked lanes violation.

Pierce was uninjured, according to Lt. Robert P. Pistone, police spokesperson.

  1. This accident could be a blessing in disguise. The sequencing of these lights, sometimes allowing about 3 seconds to cross Main Street from Ginty or Bailey Blvd., have been this way for as long as I can remember. It makes the city look incompetent. I hope the city takes this opportunity to fix this problem !
