Daniel S. Daly, 93, of Bradford, husband of Marie E. (Donovan) Daly, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, surrounded by his family.
Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, William J. and Nellie V. (McSweeney) Daly. He attended Haverhill public Schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1942. Upon graduation, he was employed by B & M Railroad and, after six months, Daly enlisted in the U.S. Navy. A World War II Veteran, he served as a pharmacist’s mate in the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged in March of 1946. Upon his return home he became a member of the Lorraine pot 29 VFW. Daly was employed as a layout operator at the former Western Electric, AT&T and retired from Lucent Technologies after 31 years of service. He was active in his church and community. As his family grew, he coached little league, and became a Boy Scout Leader. He attended both St. James and St. John the Baptist parishes. He and his wife enjoyed dancing and day trips to local beaches, most of all, spending time with family and friends.
He leaves his wife of 69 years, Marie E. (Donovan) Daly, of Bradford; children, William J. “Will” Daly, of Haverhill, Daniel S. Daly Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Groveland, John F. Daly, of Naples, Fla., and Coleen M. Daly, of California; granddaughters Veronica Daly and Christine Simard and her husband, Christopher; great grandson, Chase Simard; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Maurice Daly and his wife Violet, Edmond Daly and his wife Lucinda, Helen Begley and her husband Michael, Doris McAvoy and her husband, John, and his son in law, Leonard Brantly Filyaw.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services begin Wednesday morning, at 9, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church, 110 Lincoln Ave. Haverhill. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Salem St. Bradford. Memorial donations may be made to the charity on one’s choice.
