Coach Alvin Taylor, 56, Inspired Alvin Taylor Award

alvin_taylorAlvin Taylor, 56, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Taylor was born a Redskins fan Sept.26, 1960 in Washington D.C. He is predeceased by his parents Howard Taylor and Julia Jackson-Kennedy. As a small child, he moved to Haverhill. he excelled in football and basketball at Haverhill High School. His passion for sports stayed with him long after graduation. Simply known as “Coach Al” throughout the community, he began his 30-year commitment to Pop Warner Football. Taylor was a mentor to thousands of kids both on and off the field. His coaching did not go unnoticed, the league now awards “The Alvin Taylor Award” for Most Improved Player. When he was not coaching on the field, he did so on the basketball courts at the Haverhill Boys Club. He also enjoyed music, either as a DJ or karaoke enthusiast. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

His surviving family members include his wife and lifelong friend Pamela Taylor of Haverhill; children, Rhonda (Taylor) Uloth and husband Kevin of West Palm Beach, Fla, Taron Taylor and fiancé Seth Coppola of Haverhill, Xavier Taylor and wife Ana of Haverhill, Alvin Taylor Jr. of Haverhill and Asia Taylor of Haverhill; grandchildren Nicholas Coppola and Gabriela Taylor; sister Lisa Tavares of Haverhill; nieces and nephew Amanda, Alexis and Luis; and many friends.

Services take place Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 South Main St., Haverhill from 4 to 7 p.m..

  1. Alvin was the best example of dedication to kids I know. This guy coached Jr. Football for over 30 years at Consentino school and I was happy to have known him for the last ten or so years. His commitment to working with kids showed me what life is all about. Alvin was always smiling. He cared about every kid and was always there. Right down to his signature “statue of liberty ” play, Alvin was always having fun on the field. He would always say ” I gotta run that play at least once ” ! Haha

    It was an honor to have known him and I am sure that God needed a great guy and coach he could count on. Rest in peace buddy.
