Haverhill Elks Tap Bevilacqua Their Citizen of the Year

Patrick Dean, left, immediate past exalted ruler, presents City Councilor Joseph J. Bevilacqua with the Elks’ Citizen of the Year award.

The Haverhill Elks gave their highest annual honor to City Councilor Joseph J. Bevilacqua.

The president and CEO of the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce, Bevilacqua was named Citizen of the Year by Haverhill Lodge 165 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

The award, presented during the Elks’ annual installation of officers at the Lodge, 24 Summer St., recognized Bevilacqua for his work for the city as a councilor and, formerly, a longtime Haverhill School Committee member.

“It is an honor to be recognized by such a fine group of volunteers who contribute to so many worthy causes in our city,” Bevilacqua said.

The lodge, at 24 Summer St., is a nonprofit charity organization and social club established in 1890. “Elks Lodges bring so much more to their communities than just a building. They are where neighbors come together, families share meals, and children grow,” an online statement from the organization reads.
