A victory by the Haverhill Hillies on Thanksgiving morning highlights the year’s biggest day in high school athletics.
The Hillies capped a nine-win season Thursday, beating the Lowell Red Raiders, 64-36, at Cawley Stadium.
The Hillies’ 9-2 record was the best since the famed 1936 HHS championship team.
The Red Raiders scored first in the annual Turkey Day showdown, and the teams traded leads early on before Haverhill took control of the game late in the third quarter.

The Whittier Wildcats traveled to Greater Lawrence Tech in Andover, where they fell, 51-6, to the Reggies.
Despite controlling the ball for most of the third quarter, the Wildcats were unable to score until late in the game.
The Reggies’ senior running back Ojany Belliard ran for more than 200 yards and scored six touchdowns for Greater Lawrence.
Triton capitalized on its home-field advantage to beat Pentucket, 33-18. Triton held a 14 point lead before Pentucket’s first touchdown late in first quarter but the Sachems trailed throughout the game.
Andover’s Warriors made the home crowd happy with a 49-20 victory over the North Andover Scarlet Knights.
Andover quarterback E.J. Perry IV threw seven touchdown passes to five receivers to the delight of the Lovey Field crowd.
Methuen blanked Dracut, 14-0, in the 54th Thanksgiving matchup between the two schools.
The Rangers prevented Dracut’s quarterback from completing a pass, but the Middies still can claim bragging rights in the overall Thanksgiving record, 26-25-3. Until next year, perhaps.
