Single Alarm, Seventh Ave. Fire Sunday Result of Smoking

Haverhill Fire Department investigators believe a single-alarm fire Sunday morning at a Seventh Avenue multi-family dwelling was caused by careless disposal of smoking materials.

An investigation is ongoing and no injuries were reported as an exterior porch to the wood-frame structure at 20 Seventh Ave. received minor fire damage, according to Haverhill Fire Chief William F. Laliberty. The fire was reported at 10:33 a.m., Sunday. Local fire crews quickly contained the fire. Haverhill police assisted at the scene, prior to firefighters’ arrival, with life safety procedures and data gathering, he added.

City records show an eight-apartment building at 16-22 Seventh Ave., as being owned by Haverhill Multi Family, John Craig. The 1890 building is valued at $967,000
