Ronald Merrick, 91, World War II Veteran, Postal Worker

ronald_merrickRonald Merrick, 91, lifelong Haverhill resident, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 12, in Amesbury.

Merrickwas born in Haverhill, Aug. 1, 1925, son of Val and Ernestine Merrick. He attended Haverhill schools and graduated from Haverhill Trade School. He is a veteran having enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and again during the Korean War. He worked for many years at Avco in Haverhill, manufacturing parts used for government contracts and later retired as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Haverhill. He enjoyed being with his family and the time spent in the sun in Florida.

His surviving family members include his wife Ruth Merrick of Haverhill; daughters Joyce Merrick, Lisa Comeau, Linda Carnes and husband John, Brenda Malenfant and Kathy Nelson; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister Carol Davis; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with U.S. Navy Honors take place Thursday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m., in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Contributions may be made in his memory to either Fidelis Hospice, 25 Railroad Square, Haverhill, MA 01832 or to the MSPCA Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
