Two detainees who six days ago walked away from the minimum-security Correctional Alternative Center in Lawrence are still at large.
Essex County authorities and area police continue to look for Manuel Perez, 22, and Levi Montalvo, 23, both originally from Puerto Rico, Essex County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Barbara Maher told WHAV.
Maher would not comment on a possible search area or whether officials have any leads, for concern of jeopardizing the effort to locate the escapees.
Perez and Montalvo were being held at the correctional center, also known as “The Farm,” while awaiting trial. Perez faces motor vehicle theft charges, while Montalvo faces charges of violating an abuse prevention restraining order. Both are said to have family connections in Lawrence.
Perez has several tattoos on his hands and forearms, including the Puerto Rican flag on his right hand. Montalvo has tattoos of skulls on his abdomen, back, and left arm, the sheriff’s department said.

Both of these men sound like bad dudes to me. Why didn’t the judge order that they be housed in the lock-up instead of a minimum security facility; especially Montalvo who violated an abuse prevention restraining order.
Are their rights of more value than those of law abiding citizens?
