Business leaders and politicians from both sides of the aisle were on hand Sunday as Rep. Brian S. Dempsey used his annual pre-election breakfast to highlight developments in downtown Haverhill.

Dempsey explained how a $9 million state grant received last week will expand downtown growth along the entire south side of Merrimack Street.

“It will complete the second phase of Harbor Place—which will be terrific luxury condos along the Merrimack River—and it will also allow us to do some other development further up, closer to the post office.”

The additional work, Dempsey referenced, will likely involve Lawrence developer Salvatore Lupoli who announced last Wednesday he would be building a restaurant on the boardwalk. His announcement came as Gov. Charlie Baker was in Haverhill to present the latest MassWorks grant. It brought to nearly $45 million the Commonwealth has invested in downtown Haverhill.

The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee paid particular attention to Harbor Place at White’s Corner. He singled out members of the consortium that developed the commercial building and 80 apartments. Greater Haverhill Foundation managers Ronald Trombley and Sally Cerasuolo-O’Rorke, President Scott D. Cote, Vice President Thomas L. Mortimer and director Vincent P. O’Rorke, and Planning Office for Urban Affairs President Lisa B. Alberghini were among those recognized for their work.

Congresswoman Niki Tsongas told the audience she witnessed Haverhill’s downtown accomplishments during a tour Friday, and turned the praise back to Dempsey.

“I was in Haverhill Friday doing a walking tour of the downtown and could see what’s happening here. And, in no small part due to the leadership and commitment of Brian,” she said.

  1. Duncan I quote you…..
Both Brian and Niki also believe in Americans losing their jobs in favor of H-1B Visa Workers. For 2016, Massachusetts has brough in just under fifteen-thousand H-1B workers to help displace Massachusetts Residents from their jobs. That number is not a typo, and neither Niki or Brian care, but you should, as the jobs being taken are no longer just in tech/software. Are you a physical therapist? Hopefully it wasn’t you that lost your job at a “Care One” facility in Lexington, in Niki’s District. The company did not respond to calls or emails as to why they need to import non-Americans for such a job, a job Americans are fully capable of performing.
Why because your spot on with the H1B issue. Here they are on one hand pushing state education only to allow foreign much lower paid people TAKE away the very jobs they tout as being taught by UMASS paid for by Massachusetts taxpayers and employees.
This should be a huge story

Which brings the total to roughly $79 million to develop a property no private entity/group would touch for decades. A simple taxpayer cash transfer, along with a no-bid contract to benefit one politically connected developers family that shut out local contractors. Meanwhile, the state budget continues its shortfalls only to be met with more bond isuances to fund the gap increasing their debt service, in a city that has the same issue (debt service increases) with deficit spending to match. Brilliant.

Not to be outdone, but a District that has a war-mongering CONgress Member whose recent FEC filings show that her Campaign Committee pays for her health insurance, and her staff can be called a small business thanks to a simple OPM memo. So while The People suffer under healthcare expenses and cost increases, Niki Tsongas and friends simply live under an entirely different rule of law that they impose upon you. Her voting record, much like Dempsey, is a crony capitlaists dream come true, whether it’s for TBTF Banks, “Big Pharma”, or DoD contractors. Of note, she just received a $4K campaign contribution from DynCorp, a private mercenary group, whose parent company is Cerberus Capital Management, yes, that one.

Let’s also not forget that Massachusetts spends over $2 BILLION on invaders in our state. Brian and Niki want more of them, and as recent history shows in Haverhill and Lowell, some of them are not very nice, yet you pay for them. Those monies could be going to infrastructure, EDUCATION, or some other budget items paid for by Americans, yet they are going to invaders instead. If you’re an American, and having a tough time getting assistance in your time of need, or help for your child in school, just remember if there’s not enough money, look at these two traitors.

Both of them are hypocrites and liars, and neither will never answer honestly to serious questions, if at all. Why should they? The People keep sending them back, even though their votes and policy are destroying American lives and livelihoods. Both will be back after tomorrows elections, and many will still not care as to how they both impact their lives, until it does, by then it’s too late. Enjoy your cake.
