David A. Nicholson, 60, Vinyl Siding Installer

david_nicholsonDavid A. Nicholson, 60, of Center Ossipee, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, passed away Oct. 26 at his home surrounded by his family. He was married to Darlene L. (Smith) Nicholson.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Theresa M. (Thurlow) Nicholson of Haverhill and the late Arthur G. Nicholson. Raised and educated in Haverhill he attended St. James Grammar School and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1974. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served until 1977. He was employed as an installer of vinyl siding with various companies in the Merrimack Valley area. He was also a professional fisherman and was the captain of the “Jessica” out of Seabrook, N.H. Known for his outgoing personality, he enjoyed playing bingo and horseshoes. He was part of the pit team at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, while his nephew raced cars. In the winter months he was an avid skier and snowmobiler. Nicholson was a member of the “Park Place Bowling League,” Windham, N.H.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Elizabeth Cole of Newburyport, Danielle L. Cole of Newburyport and Meghan L. Van Amburgh and her husband Donald of Newburyport; siblings, Stephen C. Nicholson of Lumber Bridge, N.C., Kim Walsh and her husband Richard of Haverhill, Lisa J. Wadsworth and her husband Frank of Haverhill, Michael J. Nicholson and his wife Margaret of Northwood, N.H., Laurie A. Erickson and her husband Tod of Londonderry, N.H., and John P. Nicholson and his wife Angela of Ossipee, N.H.;  seven grandchildren, Daniel Medina, Abbagail Cole, Carly Thurlow, Sophia Cole, Hudson, Harley and Donald Jr. Van Amburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours Sunday, Oct. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m., Monday, from the funeral home with a funeral mass to be celebrated at noon at St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial follows in Linwood Cemetery.
