A Haverhill man was to be arraigned in court Monday on unlawful firearms possession charges after an accidental discharge inside his Arlington Street apartment wounded another person, purportedly a friend, in the arm.

Shaun Ahern, 20, of 20 Arlington St., Haverhill, was arrested at 4:48 a.m., Saturday, at home. He was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of a firearm without an identification card, unlicensed possession of ammunition, possession of large capacity and a weapons storage violation.

“At some point Ahearn improperly handled the firearm and accidentally shot the victim in the arm,” Haverhill Police Detective Lieutenant Robert P. Pistone, police spokesman, told WHAV.  The victim was treated at a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

Ahern also had an outstanding warrant related to possession of liquor by a person under 21.

  1. This is why responsible firearm owners cannot have nice things.

As Rich state above, now we’ll have to wait to see what the court does for violation of multiple firearm laws, as unseemly many of them in this state may be.
