Fred Drevenak, 92, of Exeter, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, at his home.
Drevenak was born in Staunton, Ill., Dec. 22, 1923, son of the late John and Mary Drevenak. He was educated in the Illinois school system and enlisted with the Coast Guard while in high school. After his deployment, he settled in Boston where he met the love of his life, Frances Strykowski. The two wed shortly after meeting and settled in Haverhill. While in Haverhill, Drevenak was employed at Haverhill Paperboard, Fantini Bakery and Western Electric from where he retired. He loved to work with his hands and was happiest tending to his organic vegetable garden and lawn. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed golf and good coffee. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his loving family.
He was predeceased by his wife Frances Drevenak, who passed away in 2008, as well as several siblings. Drevenak is survived by his daughters, Janice Kaplan and her husband Leonard of Brookline, and Karen Gulla and her husband Joseph of Hampton Falls, N.H.; four grandchildren, Kevin Sanville and his wife Laurel, Timothy Sanville and his wife Lynn, Michael Gulla and his wife Laurie and Kate Martin and her husband P.J.; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his calling hours Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His funeral service follows calling hours at 11:45 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be private in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Haverhill. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
