elva_jonesElva E. (Clevesy) Jones, 91, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, at Merrimack Valley Hospice, Haverhill, surrounded by her family.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Eugene Clevesy and Viola (Marshall). Raised and educated in Haverhill, she was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1943. Before raising her family she was employed at Western Electric in Haverhill. After her children were grown she was employed as a waitress at Captain Chris, Gandies in Lawrence and DiBurros Restaurant in Haverhill. Jones was also employed at Lucent Technologies before her retirement. She was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and hardly missed watching a game. She was a voracious reader and it was not uncommon for her to start and finish several books a week. She was the number one fan and cheerleader of the weekly whiffle ball, badminton and volley ball games that pitted her children and grandchildren against each other. Family was the center of her world and she devoted herself to her three sons and their families.

Jones is survived by her children, Glenn A. Jones of Worcester and Steven R. Jones and his wife Carina A. of Haverhill; grandchildren, Eric, Ashley, Alan and Christopher Jones; Matthew LeBretton and Kristen Jones; several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Her son Gary L. Jones passed in 2005.

Funeral services, under the direction of Comeau Funeral Home, are private. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01843.
