Dorothy (Bunker) Benson, 83, Mental Health Counselor

dorothy_bensonDorothy (Bunker) Benson, 83, formerly of Haverhill, recently of Stoneham, died Friday night, Sept. 30, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Charlestown, Dec. 5, 1932, daughter of the late Henry and Rachel (Hudson) Bunker. Educated in the Charlestown and Somerville school systems, Benson worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a mental health counselor at the Somerville Mental Health Clinic for more than 21 years. A descendent of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, Benson enjoyed sewing and reading.

She was the wife of the late Arthur “Ben” Benson who died in 2015, mother of the late Donald B. Snow Jr. and Lori Ellen (Snow) Wright, and sister of the late Chester, Earl, Henry, David Bunker and Helen (Bunker) Fowler. Her survivors include a son, Wayne A. Snow and his wife Cheryle of Haverhill; two daughters, Donna (Snow) Berkowitz and her husband William of Stoneham, and Debra (Snow) Ponte and her husband Joseph of Londonderry, N.H.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m., at H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Her funeral service and burial are private and at the convenience of the family.
