DiZoglio to Retire from Haverhill-Based Planning Agency

DiZoglio is a former Methuen mayor and has headed the Haverhill-based Merrimack Valley Planning Commission since 2007.

Dennis A. DiZoglio, executive director of the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission since 2007 is retiring.

DiZoglio, a former Methuen mayor, oversees the Haverhill-based, quasi-government agency with a $2 million annual budget. MVPC serves 15 area communities, including Haverhill, Methuen and Andover, with planning services including land use, transportation, environmental, energy, hazard mitigation and economic development.

Nine years ago, DiZoglio replaced Gaylord Burke as head of the agency. Previously, DiZoglio served seven years as deputy general manager for planning and development at MBTA, Boston. He was elected as Methuen’s first mayor in 70 years in 1994 and remained in that post until 2000 when term limits forced him to step down. He previously served as planning director in Peabody and Taunton.

A retirement party for DiZoglio is planned for Thursday, Nov. 3, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Merrimack Valley Golf Club, 210 Howe St., Methuen.

The agency is accepting resumes for the $128,000 annual position until Wednesday, Sept. 21. A job posting seeks a candidate with “at least ten years of leadership or executive level experience, at increasing levels of responsibility.  Experience working in, or with, municipal government is preferred.”

Those interested may email information to [email protected] or send standard mail to Executive Director Search, 160 Main St., Haverhill, MA 01830. Inquiries are being directed to an outside recruitment firm, Community Paradigm Associates, Plymouth.
