Fans of Haverhill-born poet John Greenleaf Whittier will have an opportunity Saturday night to hear a staged reading of selected passages from “Delivering the Truth,” a novel by Edith Maxwell, during “Celebrating Whittier 2016.”

Maxwell narrates the reading while Kate Bernardoni portrays Quaker midwife Rose Carroll. John Greenleaf Whittier is played by Chuck Kennedy.

Maxwell is an Agatha-nominated mystery author. Her “Murder Most Fowl,” book four in her Local Foods Mystery series, was released this year. Her story, “A Questionable Death,” was nominated for an Agatha Award for Best Short Story. As Maddie Day, she writes the Country Store Mysteries set in southern Indiana. “Grilled for Murder” was released in 2016. Maxwell is also featuring the Rose Carroll character in “Murder in the Summer Kitchen,” a short story appearing in the forthcoming anthology, “Murder Among Friends.” The book is a fundraiser for Haverhill’s Whittier Birthplace museum. It is being compiled and edited by David Goudsward, who also organized “Snowbound with Zombies” last year. Maxwell is clerk of Amesbury Friends Meeting and once owned and operated the smallest certified-organic farm in Essex County.

“Celebrating Whittier” takes place Saturday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Amesbury Friends Meeting House, 120 Friend St., Amesbury. Tickets are $20 and may be obtained online at whittierhome.org or by calling 978-388-1337. Proceeds support the preservation of Whittier Home Museum, Amesbury.
