Scully Says Appointment of Fulgoni One of His ‘Strongest’

Haverhill Superintendent of Schools James F. Scully.

Haverhill Superintendent of Schools James F. Scully calls his selection of new Assistant Superintendent Jared Fulgoni “one of the strongest recommendations that I have made.”

As WHAV first reported Friday, the Haverhill School Committee approved Scully’s recommendation Thursday to promote Fulgoni, former Hunking School principal and, most recently, the district’s director of strategy and accountability. He replaces former Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum Julie R. Kukenberger, who left in June. In a letter to school department staff Friday, Scully said Fulgoni has worked with him in several capacities and “has always been dignified and a very knowledgeable member” of the leadership team.

“I have made numerous appointments during the many years I have been involved with public education. My recommendation of Mr. Fulgoni to the Haverhill School Committee was one of the strongest recommendations that I have made in all this time. Not only is he capable, but his interests mirror the interests that you and I share – to continue providing the children in Haverhill with the best education and available avenues to reach their dreams.”

Fulgoni joined Haverhill Public Schools as Hunking principal in July, 2012. Prior to that he was principal, since 2007, at Triton Regional Middle School, Byfield. While at Hunking, he credited “implementing data driven dialogue to improve teacher effectiveness” and “utilizing state and local assessment data to review and revise school programs.” He is also a member of the Hunking school building committee, designated as one “knowledgeable in educational mission and function of facility” in the panel’s “decision making authority” for the up to $61.5 million new Hunking construction project. He was promoted to the central office by Scully in August, 2015, as director of strategy and accountability.

Fulgoni received a bachelor’s from Keene (N.H) State College, a master’s from Plymouth State University and Advanced Graduate Study degree from University of New Hampshire. He began his education career in 1994 as a teacher, guidance counselor and middle school coordinator at Moultonborough Academy, Moultonborough, N.H.

Haverhill schools re-open for classes Tuesday.

  1. What the heck does “implementing data driven dialogue to improve teacher effectiveness” even mean? Sounds like he set the teachers up on email.

Also – what does “utilizing state and local assessment data to review and revise school programs.” mean? Sounds like he looked up stats on the Department of Education web site – and geared curriculum to the state tests. So?

I’m surprised he hasn’t “engaged in effective communications with transportation conduits to ensure timely understanding of planned activities” – meaning he made sure the buses arrived at the school on time for 1st period.

    Wow.
