William Castro during a recent WHAV Open Mike Show.
Methuen Democrat William Castro, candidate for Essex County Sheriff, received the most votes in the race during a straw poll Saturday during the Haverhill Democratic City Committee’s annual breakfast.
Castro won 40 percent of the unscientific poll involving an estimated 120 Democrats who gathered Saturday morning in downtown Haverhill.
Following behind Castro was Jerry P. Robito, 18 percent; Michael J. Marks, 16 percent; Paul L.D. Russell Jr., 12; Edward J. O’Reilly, 6 percent; and Kevin F. Coppinger, 5 percent. Three percent of those attending did not cast ballots in the race.
Here are the straw poll results for other local races:
First Essex State Senate
Kathleen A. O’Connor Ives, 77 percent
Adele F. Martino, 10 percent
Blank, 13 percent
14th Essex District State Representative
Diana Dizoglio, 60 percent
Phyllis Ann Jones, 23 percent
Blank, 17 percent
15th Essex District State Representative
Linda Dean Campbell, 84 percent
Christopher James Katsoulis, 6 percent
Blank, 10 percent
Rep. Brian S. Dempsey, Third Essex District, is uncontested in his race.
There was an interesting article in a local paper about stolen political signs.
Anybody get to read it? Maybe that’s why he won in the straw pole……
He created his own crisis. That’s been done before in Haverhill. Signs found in river-OMG !
