Michael D. Blackey, 62, Carpenter, Served in Air Force

michael_blackeyMichael D. Blackey, 62, of Sherborn and formerly of Haverhill, passed away Aug. 15, at Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Ernest and Marjorie (Newcomb) Blackey. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1971. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. He was employed as a carpenter for local contractors in Framingham for 17 years. Blackey enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR.

Blackey is survived by his daughter, Michelle Diaz of Haverhill; step daughter Alicia Powers of Lawrence; six grandchildren, Marquis and Jayden Diaz, Stephen, Natalia, Maximus and Adriana Powers; siblings, Judy Lajoie and her husband Daniel of Burlington, Vt., David Blackey of South Carolina, Darlene Paquette and her husband Darius of Wolfboro, N.H., Dwayne Blackey of Haverhill, Tina Muir and her husband Todd of Haverhill and Daniel Batchelder of Seneca, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Cynthia Weiner and Susan DeRoche and his brother Stephen T. Blackey.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Saturday, Aug, 20, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Burial will be private.
