Jeremiah F. Murphy, 83, Korean War Veteran, Worked at Western Electric

Jeremiah F. Murphy, 83, of Bradford, passed away peacefully Monday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

He was born in Chelsea, Aug. 19, 1932, son of the late Timothy and Catherine (Connelly) Murphy. He was educated in the Chelsea school system and graduated from Chelsea High School. Upon graduating high school he enlisted in the Army where he earned the rank of corporal during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Murphy furthered his education, earning his Bachelor’s in engineering from Northeastern University. For more than 30 years he was employed at Western Electric and Lucent Technologies, from where he retired. Murphy was a little league coach to his four sons and his grandchildren, enjoyed organic gardening and took great pride in his tomato plants. He was a long-time parishioner at Sacred Hearts Church in Bradford.

He was predeceased by his son Joel S. Murphy who passed away in 2011 and several siblings. He is survived by his wife, Rhoda (Sheppard) Murphy of Bradford; three sons, Jeremiah F. Murphy Jr., of Bradford, Jeffrey A. Murphy and his wife Paula of Westford, and James D. Murphy and his wife Kathy of Huntsville, Ala.; sister, Mary Donnelly and her husband Frank of New York; three grandsons, Kevin, Connor and Ryan Murphy; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hoursFriday, Aug. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m., at H.L. Farmer and Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St., (route 125) Bradford. His funeral takes place Saturday, Aug. 20, starting at 9:30 a.m., from the Bradford funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30, at Sacred Hearts Church, 165 South Main St., Bradford.
