A plan to convert the former Cogswell School into an arts and cultural center is $3,000 closer to its goal thanks to a donation from the Haverhill Rotary Club.
Using proceeds from its sale of a limited edition of prints of Mark Hayden’s “The Heart of the Valley,” Haverhill Rotarians donated $3,000 to the Cogswell Art Center initiative last Thursday. Rotary President Arthur H. Veasey III and Past President Michel van Ravestyn presented the check to Tim Jordan, on behalf of the Cogswell Art Center. The contribution brings the art space closer to its goal of meeting a $30,000 matching gift campaign.
Prior to the Rotary donation, Cogswell Art Center had raised $24,500 toward the goal.
The project is the brainchild of Jaime DeSimone, Danielle Smida, Tina Fuller and Leota Spero Sarrette, as part of plans advanced by Creative Haverhill.
“An art center at Cogswell School would benefit the entire Haverhill community by providing a program of multidisciplinary arts educational courses, dynamic exhibitions, and annual artist-in-residence projects,” DeSimone said last year.
The Rotary Club of Haverhill is selling a limited edition of Hayden 250 prints to raise funds for the project.
Each 11- by 14-inch print is digitally reproduced on 100 percent cotton cover paper and hand-signed by the artist. Mark Hayden, a Haverhill native, is a Copley Master. The Cogswell Artspace is an initiative to transform the former Cogswell School, Bradford, into an arts and cultural center. For more information, visit cogswellartcenter.org/.
