Dorothea Arlene Chase, 96, Worked for Louis Hamel

Dorothea Arlene Chase, 96, a  lifelong Haverhill resident, passed peacefully at Penacook Place, Sunday night, Aug. 7,after a brief illness.

Born in Haverhill June 23, 1920, she was the only child of the late Harold Elmer and Dorothea Marshall (Smith) Chase and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, continuing her education with two years of secretarial school. Chase worked as a secretary for Haverhill leather mogul, Louis Hamel. Her passions in life included reading, working crossword puzzles and playing golf, first at the Amesbury Country Club and later at Crystal Springs in Haverhill.

She leaves behind several cousins and two very dear friends, Blanche Johnson and Gerry Ferronetti.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at Walnut Cemetery, East Broadway, Haverhill Thursday, Aug. 11, 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 334 Main St., Haverhill.
