J. Wilfred “Frenchie” LeBlanc, 90, a resident of Amesbury since 1961 and a former resident of Bradford, died Thursday, Aug. 4, at his home, with family by his side.
Born in Haverhill, son of the late Mitchel and Mary (Saulnier) LeBlanc, he attended schools in Haverhill and Nova Scotia. He served as a coxswain in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with Two Stars and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. LeBlanc was a carpenter employed by local contractors and worked for many years at Carlson Construction of Cochichuate and most recently at Charles Construction Co. He was a 45-year member and former business agent of the Carpenters and Joiners Union, Local 82, now 111. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening playing cards and was past president and longtime board member of Haverhill Ridge Runners.
He leaves his wife of 66 years, Beatrice (Descheneau) LeBlanc; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Walter Holak of Kingston, N.H.; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph W. and Suzanne LeBlanc of Naples, Fla., Lee J. and Chandra LeBlanc of Livermore, Maine, and Mitchel J. LeBlanc of Candia, N.H.; sister, Anne Currier of Florida; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Dennis J. LeBlanc, a brother Dennis LeBlanc, and sisters, Alma Jones, Catherine Sarfde, Hazel Currier, and Margaret LeBlanc.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Sunday, Aug. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. His Mass of Christian Burial takes Place Monday, Aug. 8, 1 p.m., in Holy Family Parish, 11 Sparhawk St., Amesbury.
