Four Haverhill police offers received permanent promotions Friday, and were sworn in Friday by Mayor James J. Fiorentini.

Captain Stephen Doherty was promoted from acting to permanent captain, Lts. Meaghan Buckley and Doreen Champagne were promoted from acting to permanent lieutenants and Thomas Howell was promoted from patrolman to sergeant. Fiorentini noted the police department had three female officers when he was first elected, but now has 11.

“We are fortunate to have 11 dedicated women that serve on our department, 3 of which are superior officers. All of our officers are committed and dedicated men and woman who serve our city,” the mayor said.

Doherty has been with department since 1998, Buckley and Champagne both since 2004 and Howell since 1999.
