Woman, 73, Receives Injuries in I-495 Rollover Crash in Merrimac

The cause of a single-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 495 northbound in Merrimac, in which a 73-year old motorist was injured, remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.

State police from the Newbury barracks and emergency workers from Merrimac responded to the crash which occurred at about 9:50 a.m., Wednesday. An unidentified 73-year old woman from Westford, the driver and sole occupant, was entrapped and subsequently freed from a 2003 Honda CRV and transported to Lawrence General Hospital for treatment, according to State Police Sgt. Thomas Ryan, media spokesman.

“Preliminary investigation by Trooper Matthew Routhier indicates that a 73-year-old woman from Westford was traveling northbound in a 2003 Honda CRV when, for reasons still under investigation, she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to rollover in the roadway,” Ryan told WHAV. “

Members of the Merrimac Fire Department assisted in extricating the woman from her vehicle before being transported by Merrimac EMS for treatment, Ryan added.
