Joan F. (Aherne) Vlahos, 83, of Haverhill, wife of the late Peter C. Vlahos, passed away Monday, July 11, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, surrounded by her family.
Born in Everett, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Lucy E. (Vadeboncoeur) Aherne. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1950. She was employed as a salesperson in Haverhill for various distributors including Treasure House. She was a home party planner, similar to Mary Kay, selling gifts, toys and jewelry. She loved tending her garden and cooking for her family and friends. She was a talented dancer and enjoyed going out to dance with her husband. An avid walker, she walked daily for three miles before it was fashionable.
Vlahos is survived by her two sons, William A. Vlahos and Charles M. Vlahos, both of Haverhill; five grandchildren, William A. Vlahos and his wife Story of Salem, N.H.; Daniel C. Vlahos and his wife Meredith of Boston; Gregory M. Vlahos and his wife Jacquie of Bradford; Jeffrey P. Vlahos of Boston and Peter R. Vlahos of Haverhill; four great grandchildren, Jaxson, Evelyn, Miles and Corinne Vlahos; sister-in-law, Aspacia “Honey” Girard of Plaistow, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter in law Debra E. (Coco) Vlahos.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours Wednesday, July 13, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services will begin Thursday, 9 a.m., from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m., in St. John the Baptist Church, Lincoln Avenue, Haverhill. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Donations may be made in her memory to Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave., Haverhill, MA 01830. The family thanks the staff at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House for excellent care.
