Two Men Die in I-495 Rollover Crash in Lawrence

Two young men were killed early this morning after the car in which they were passengers rolled over and crashed near an Interstate 495 off ramp in Lawrence.

Alexander Castro, 23, of Salem, and Wilbert Munoz, 26, of Lawrence, died after the driver of a 1992 Honda Civic attempted to take the Marston Street off ramp from route 495 south at high speed around 2:17 this morning, failed to negotiate the curve and causing the vehicle to drive off the embankment and roll over, Massachusetts State Police said.

Castro was transported to Lawrence General Hospital where he died, while Munoz was ejected from the car and was determined to be dead at the scene. An unidentified 22-year-old Lawrence man was driving. He received serious injuries and was initially transported to Lawrence General Hospital but later transferred to Beth Israel Hospital for medical treatment, according to a report from State Police Troopers Andrew Chiachio and David Bouchard.

No charges have yet been filed against the driver. The crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section. State Police were assisted on scene by Lawrence Fire and EMS, Lawrence Police, and MassDOT.

The Marston Street off ramp was closed for nearly four hours for investigation and cleanup.
