A 24-year-old Haverhill man was arrested Thursday for, what police called, the “brazen” daytime armed robbery of a Monument Square convenience store on Father’s Day.
Joseph Gonzalez-Doucette was located in Danvers and arrested by U.S. Marshals, Haverhill U.S. Marshal Task Force officers and Danvers Police. He was charged with armed robbery while masked. Gonzalez-Doucette spent Thursday night at the Essex County House of Correction and was arraigned Friday in Haverhill District Court.
“This arrest was the result of excellent police work by the first responding officers, Haverhill Detectives, the U.S. Marshals and anonymous tips received as a result of local media publication,” said Detective Lieutenant Robert P. Pistone. WHAV and other media published a photograph, taken from store surveillance video, of the man.
Gonzalez-Doucette allegedly entered Cumberland Farms, 323 Main St., at 2:11 p.m., Sunday, June 19. He asked to purchase cigarettes at and then handed a note to a store clerk, which read, “I have a gun, put all the money in a bag,” police said. No weapon was shown. Following the robbery, he was last seen fleeing on foot along Kenoza Avenue. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
Gonzalez-Doucette was ordered held on $50,000 bail.
