Margaret Mary (Savage) Skarbek, 87, Former Nun

Margaret Mary (Savage) Skarbek, 87, of Bradford, passed away Friday June 24, with her family at her side.

She was born in Worcester Feb. 23, 1929, daughter of the late Patrick J. and Hanna (Lucey) Savage. She was a graduate of Worcester High School, class of 1947. She became a nun with the Sister of Providence in Holyoke. As a nun she studied child education and went on to working as a school teacher for orphans. Later she worked in marketing and advertising for Atlas News and Trial News.

Skarbek is survived by her husband of 58 years, Louis J. Skarbek; two children, Thomas J. Skarbek and his wife Kathleen, and Jean M. Skarbek and her husband Mark Chandler all of Bradford; grandchildren Marissa Chandler, Thomas and Joseph Skarbek; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her eight siblings; Francis, John Timothy, , Mary, Kathryn, Helen, Sister Anne and Irene.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours Monday, June 27, from 5 to 8 p.m., at H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St. (route 125). Her funeral mass takes place Tuesday, June 28, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitney St. Webster. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Webster.
