A Massachusetts State Police trooper out of the Andover barracks played intermediary Monday in the rescue of an injured baby hawk from the middle of route 125 in Andover.

Trooper Leigha Genduso stopped to check on two “good Samaritans” in the breakdown lane of route 125, according to state police.  The two showed her a baby hawk they were able to guide from the roadway to the wood line.

“Trooper Genduso took the little red tailed guy and brought him back to Andover Barracks where she was able to make contact with Diane Welch, who is a rescue falconer,” a state police spokesperson said.

Welch will be rehabilitating the hawk which, according to police, “appears to have fallen off of a nest and was emaciated,” back to health.
