Haverhill High School is launching two new programs, “Healthcare Occupations” and “Programming and Web Development,” as part of its Career (vocational) Technical Education (CTE) offerings next school year.
A $218,000 state grant from Governor Charlie Baker added the programs to “offer choice and opportunity to students who would otherwise be denied admission to a vocational program,” according to Haverhill Public Schools. Application for admission in the fall, or during the school year, is open to “any eighth or ninth grade student who is a student in Haverhill High School…subject to the availability of openings” and other criteria. An information session for parents will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, in the library at Haverhill High School, 137 Monument St.
“CTE programs are sequence of rigorous technical courses aligned with industry standards. Students travel together as a cohort. College and career planning activities and work-based learning opportunities are embedded into all programs,” a spokesperson said.
