Lynn Police Chief Kevin F. Coppinger, Democratic candidate for Essex County sheriff, appeared on WHAV’s Open Mike Show Monday night.

Coppinger is one of 13 candidates vying to fill the seat to be vacated by retiring Sheriff Frank G. Cousins. He has spent the bulk of his career within the Lynn Police Department. Before becoming police chief in 2009, he served as a deputy chief. He rose through the ranks, beginning as a patrol officer in Lynn and Lynnfield.

Coppinger said he hopes his law enforcement experience and ability to manage budgets will convince voters to choose him Thursday, Sept. 8.
