Amanda Carr Group opens the Maudslay Arts Center Concerts

The Amanda Carr Group opens the Maudslay Arts Center Summer Concert Series Saturday, July 9.

Carr is a multi-styled vocalist/pianist that began professionally as a teenager in the rock and pop genre playing in Boston area nightclubs with later years including jazz and big band, focusing on fresh interpretations of the Great American Songbook and receiving critical acclaim. She has performed and recorded in the U.S. and abroad, including Australia and England. Twice a feature story by respected writer/author Nat Hentoff in The Wall Street Journal, she garnered global exposure as he hailed her, “…a true jazz singer in a time of wannabes.” Currently, she is artist liaison for Boston Women in Media and Entertainment, authoring a popular online interview series.

The 2016 Summer Concert Series lineup also includes MAC favorites Liz Frame & the Kickers, Opera Night with the Dirk Hillyer Festival Orchestra, The Don Campbell Band, Rebecca Parris, Paul Broadnax and Donna Byrne. New on this season’s lineup are the New England Tenors, The Bobby Keyes Trio, and Gilson Schachnik Brazilian Trio featuring vocalist Mirella Costa.

Saturday concerts begin at 7 p.m. and include: Amanda Carr with Cercie Miller, July 9; Opera Night with Dirk Hillyer Festival Orchestra, July 16; Liz Frame & the Kickers, July 23; The Bobby Keyes Trio, July 30; The Don Campbell Band, Aug. 13;Rebecca Parris, Aug. 20; and Myanna. Aug. 27.

Sunday afternoon performances begin at 2 p.m. and include: New England Tenors, July 10; Hal McIntyre Big Band tribute to Frank Sinatra; July 17; Gilson Schachnik Brazilian Trio featuring vocalist Mirella Costa, Aug. 14; Paul Broadnax & Friends, Aug. 21; and Donna Byrne on Aug. 28.

Maudslay Arts Center is located at 95 Curzon Mill Road, Maudslay State Park,  Newburyport. Concerts are held rain or shine, moving inside to the MAC Concert Barn when weather dictates. The area is sprayed for ticks and mosquitoes. Handicap parking available on site.

Saturday patio seating (tables and chairs) is $25, while lawn seating (bring your own chairs or blankets) is $20.  Children 12 and under are free. Sunday general admission is $18 with open seating on the patio and lawn. Tables and chairs are provided on the patio. Children 12 and under are free.
