John L. DeCicco, 88, World War II Veteran

John_ DeCiccoJohn L. DeCicco, 88, of Haverhill, husband of Theresa I. (Dudley) DeCicco, passed away May 23 at Port Healthcare Center, Newburyport surrounded by his family.

Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Dionigia DeCicco. He attended Boston Public Schools and was a graduate of East Boston High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged.

He met and married Theresa, from Chelsea. Together they raised their family in Chelsea before moving to Haverhill more than 20 years ago. He worked for the Charlestown Navy Yard and, for many years, was a sheet metal fabricator for General Electric, Lynn.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Joseph O. DeCicco and his wife Suzanne of Malden; two daughters, Denise Kerrigan of Haverhill and Maureen A. Verdura and her husband Andy of Haverhill; nine grandchildren, Danielle, Patrick and Jonathan DeCicco, Christopher Leonard, Eric Stagno, Gina McDonald, Cassandra Cerasuolo, Andrew Verdura and Dana Wiley; and nine great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Deborah A. Wiley and his son in law Kenneth E. Wiley; his grandson, Joseph O. DeCicco Jr. and two sisters, Anna Zanfani and Rosa Lewin.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Wednesday, May 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services begin Thursday morning at 9, from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m., at All Saints Parish, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill. Burial follows in St. James Cemetery, Winter Street, Haverhill. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472. The Decicco family thanks the staff at Port Healthcare for the excellent care they provided.
