An estimated seven to 10 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease and about four percent are diagnosed before the age of 50. In The United States alone, one million live with Parkinson’s disease—more than the combined number of people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Haverhill School Committeeman Scott W. Wood Jr. appears on Monday night’s Open Mike Show with Tim Coco to discuss the disease and his October Moving Day walk team. National Parkinson Foundation’s (NPF) “Moving Day” walk takes place Saturday, Oct. 15, in Boston. Wood’s team has already raised $1,750 toward its goal of $5,000.

“This is an issue that is very personal to me. I hope you will join me in helping find a cure to this horrible disease,” Wood asks.

The Open Mike Show begins at 6:30 p.m. The program may be viewed in high definition at www.WHAV.tv and on WHAV’s Facebook page, and standard definition at HC Media Channel 22 on Comcast in Haverhill. Audio may also be heard at www.WHAV.net, participating cable television stations across the Merrimack Valley, Apple TV’s Golden Oldies group and Tunein (available on Web, smartphone and television apps).
