Shirley M. (Corson) Belfiore, 92, School Volunteer

shirley_belfioreShirley M. (Corson) Belfiore, 92, wife of the late John Belfiore peacefully passed away May 10, at Penacook Place, Haverhill.

Born in Fremont, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Della (Young) Corson. Raised and educated in Kingston, N.H., she graduated from Sanborn Seminary in 1942. After high school she attended Western Union Telegraph School and during World War II worked as a telegraph operator at Fort Devens. She was an avid volunteer, for the PTA at the Burnham and Nettle Schools while her children attended and in later years as well. Belfiore was a Girl Scout leader and also volunteered at the Buttonwoods Museum, the former Hale Hospital, and the Merrimack Valley Hospital. She was a member of Fidelity Chapter 90, O.E.S. She was known to be ahead of her time. She had an open door policy with her children and their friends, and loved to garden and watch the birds in her garden. Her love and knowledge of birds was passed on to her family. In 1998, at the age of 74, she traveled with her daughter to China as the adoption process for her granddaughter was completed.

Surviving her are her children, Gary Belfiore and his wife Susan (Gately) of Haverhill; Mark Belfiore of Haverhill; Lynne Belfiore and Richard Whitman of Marstons Mills and Joni Belfiore and Mark Perri of Atkinson, N.H.; sister Bettie Ouellette of Kingston, N.H.; five grandchildren, Brian, Sarah, Emmalisa, Lucy Grace, and Lia Belfiore; two greatgrandchildren, Olivia and Abigail; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother in law Roger Ouellette.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Saturday, May 14 from noon to 1 p.m., at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. A funeral service follows at 1 p.m., in the funeral home. The family thanks Penacook Place for its care.
