Davida V. (Vinecour) Merker, 90, Tax Examination Technician

Davida V. (Vinecour) Merker, 90, died Wednesday afternoon, May 11, at Penacook Place Nursing Home, Haverhill.

She was born in Haverhill, Jan. 27, 1926, daughter of the late Benjamin and Lena (Servetnick) Vinecour. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Merker graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1943 and earned her Bachelor Degree in Education from the former Lowell Teachers College, now University of Massachusetts Lowell. She taught grammar school for one year, and then became a substitute teacher in the Haverhill school system for several years. For more than 11 years she was employed as a lead tax examination technician at IRS, Methuen. She was a lifelong member of Temple Emanu-El, Haverhill, a member of the Jewish Scholarship Loan Association, Hadassah, Sisterhood of the Temple, Ladies Helping Hand, former president of the Council of Jewish Women, Haverhill Historical Society, friends of the Haverhill Public Library, Massachusetts Association Retarded Citizens as well as Northern Essex County Association of Retarded Citizens and Haverhill and Newburyport Human Services.

She was the wife of the late Sheldon G. Merker who died in 2008 and sister of the late Ada Mandell who died in 2011. Her survivors include two sons, Bennett S. Merker, David Merker, both of Haverhill; a brother-in-law, Stuart Mandell of Haverhill; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Her graveside service was Thursday morning in Children of Israel Cemetery, Haverhill.
