Man Due in Court After Crash Endangers Pregnant Woman

A 24-year-old motorist is due to be arraigned today in Haverhill District Court on charges stemming from his alleged involvement in a crash Tuesday evening on Middle Road which left another driver, a 24-year-old pregnant woman, hospitalized in Boston.

Josef Leavitt, 24, address not released, has been charged by police with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to Carrie Kimball-Monahan, spokesperson for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.

“The driver of (a) Jeep Cherokee, which Mr. Leavitt allegedly struck, was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital and is in critical condition.  She is 24-year-old pregnant woman. Her male passenger suffered only minor injuries,” Kimball-Monahan told WHAV. Neither the woman’s identity nor the age of her passenger were released.
