Free Concerts, Art Project Saturday at Parking Garage Plaza

Be Imagine Music Studio’s youth bands and soloists will perform live music Saturday while Shoe Town Arts Center conducts a public arts project in front of the Merrimack Street parking garage.

The events, between 2 and 5 p.m., Saturday, May 14, are more in a series aimed at “reimagining” the brick plaza in front of the Herbert H. Goecke Jr. Memorial Parking Deck.

Performers include Flip The Page, Bliss, Blue Crush, Valhalla, Fearless Dreams, Common Casualty and soloists. Be Imagine Music Studio is made up of 11 instructors formerly of Haverhill Music Centre.

Because of wet conditions, last Saturday’s “Chalk the Park Party” was rescheduled to Saturday, July 2, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Leota Sarrette recently won a Creative Haverhill competition to “activate” the brick plaza. Her proposal was awarded a $350 prize plus $2,000 to pay for six weeks of scheduled programming in the space, according to a statement from Creative Haverhill. The money comes from a $6,000 grant from quasi-public MassDevelopment, which is spearheading Haverhill’s Transformative Development Initiative (TDI). Remaining grant funds will be used to provide seating and shade structures, said Jenny Arndt, Creative Haverhill’s arts and culture coordinator.
