Officials Deem Early Morning Church Fire ‘Suspicious’

An investigation is under way into the cause of an exterior fire, deemed by police as “suspicious,” early this morning at a Groveland Street church.

Haverhill firefighters and police responded to the fire, reported at 3:25 a.m., today, at Riverside Memorial Church, 278 Groveland St., according to Haverhill Police Captain Robert P. Pistone. The fire damaged the east side of the building, including vinyl siding which had melted from the heat of the flames. No injuries were reported.

No further details were available. The fire is under investigation by Haverhill fire and police departments, along with the state Fire Marshal’s office, Pistone told WHAV.
