Arnold Pevna, 85, formerly of Haverhill passed away Monday April 25, 2016 at his residence in Newton, N.H.
Pevna was born in Haverhill, March 31, 1931, son of the late Jacob and Esther (Sacarob) Pevna. He was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1949, and later graduated from Boston University, class of 1958. He also served in the United States Navy. His passion was his work. He owned and operated Haverhill & Lawrence Transportation, as well as East West Consolidators with his son, David Pevna. He worked up until the day he died, which is exactly how he wanted it. In later years, when he wasn’t behind his desk, you could find him playing cards at the Haverhill Country Club.
Pevna was pre-deceased by his wife, Thalia (Valhouli) Pevna, his daughter, Nancy Valoras and his son, George Valoras. He is survived by his son, David Pevna and his wife Joanne of Plaistow, N.H., and their three children; grandchildren, Samantha Masello and her husband Domenic of Plaistow, N.H., Molly Pevna of Haverhill, and Max Pevna of Plaistow, N.H.; partner, Clara Donahue, who was with him as he passed on; daughter, Jane Morse of Georgia; and son, Leonard Pevna of California.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Wednesday, April 27, at 10 a.m., at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St. Haverhill. Interment will follow in the Children of Israel Cemetery, Haverhill. At his request, there will be no Shiva period.
