Union Approves Contract 49-7; School Committee Votes Tonight

The Haverhill School Committee is scheduled tonight to vote on final ratification of a contract agreement with the Haverhill Education Association’s (HEA) Education Support personnel (ESP) group,

Those HEA members approved the tentative contract agreement Wednesday in a ratification vote of 49 to 7, according to HEA President Lisa R. Begley by voice mail message on the union’s office line. Details of the agreement remain undisclosed by either HEA or the committee’s negotiating team. A copy was also not included as part of tonight’s agenda support materials.

In addition to teachers and ESP, the HEA also represents clerical workers in the Haverhill schools.

In other committee business, Superintendent James F. Scully and district Business Manager Brian A. O’Connell are scheduled to present an overview of the upcoming budget proposal for the next school year. In a related matter, a “budget process” discussion was also requested by committee Vice President Gail M. Sullivan.

Also, a quarterly report for the Silver Hill Horace Mann Charter School is to be presented to the committee by Board of Trustees Chairperson Gene Zylkuski. Discussion of ongoing efforts by the school district to reduce a per student spending shortfall, reportedly down from $1,500 in 2013 to $1,080 this year, is anticipated among topics.
