Robert H. Robinson, 89, of Haverhill and formerly of Georgetown, passed away Sunday, April 3, at Beaumont Nursing Home in Northborough, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.
Robinson was the son of the late Helen F. (Morgan) and Irving H. Robinson, Sr., of Haverhill and Georgetown. He attended public schools in Georgetown, including Perley High School. He was a combat veteran of World War II, enlisting in the Merchant Marine and serving aboard the USS Perote from 1944 to 1945. He also served in the U.S. Army as an MP from 1950 to 1952, and the Army Reserve until 1956 when he was honorably discharged. He worked in the woolen mills of Lawrence, constructed and refinished bowling alleys all over Massachusetts and spent 25 years as a millwright at Raytheon in Andover, West Andover and Bedford. Robinson was an avid reader of murder mysteries and spy thrillers. He also enjoyed travel, candlepin bowling, photography, woodworking, gardening and bird watchings.
Robinson joins his beloved wife, Sheila M. (Quimby) Robinson, who died in 2011, and his sisters Ruth Emery and Edith Meisser and brother Irving H. Robinson Jr. He is survived by his sister Laurie Jordan; daughters Ann-Marie Robinson, Valerie Robinson and Ellen Gentile; grandchildren Delaney Harrigan, Kylie Harrigan, Nicole Duggan, Laurel Hecker and Brian Hecker; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday from 4 to 5:45 p.m., at H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St. Haverhill, with a service to follow at 6. Interment with military honors will be private in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Contributions in his memory may be made to Sarah’s Place Adult Day Health Center, 180 Water St. Haverhill, MA 01830.
