The public won’t learn about specific salary terms and percentage increases for education support personnel (ESP) until at least April 13.
Officials, however, did confirm Thursday, the contract will cover a three-year period. As WHAV first reported Thursday, the Haverhill Education Association (HEA) has scheduled an April 13 ratification vote by the ESP unit of the union which also represents city teachers. Pending the outcome, a vote by the Haverhill School committee could come during a meeting the following night, according to Committee President Maura L. Ryan-Ciardiello. Neither she, committee negotiators nor the HEA have released specifics, including salary terms, as requested by WHAV.
“We will meet and see if they accept on the 13th and then school committee will vote to approve on the 14th,” Haverhill School Committee President Maura L. Ryan-Ciardiello told WHAV Thursday evening. Haverhill School Committee Vice President Gail M. Sullivan added this morning, “This contract has yet to be ratified so I don’t feel it is appropriate to discuss it.”
A response by HEA President Lisa Begley indicated only the tentative agreement would be a three-year contract.
“A meeting on the ratification of the ESP contract is scheduled for April 7 at 4 p.m. in the HHS library. Voting will take place the following week. Unlike the teachers contract which was a contract for one year at zero then another contract for three additional years the ESP contract is only for a three-year period,” Begley told WHAV Thursday.
As WHAV reported, the HEA said in a statement Tuesday the tentative agreement will be presented to ESP unit members during the April 7 informational meeting in the library at Haverhill High School, 137 Monument St. A ratification vote by those HEA members is scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at the union’s office, 800 Broadway, Suite 3.

This is outrageous!!!
The public has a right to know what they’re going to be funding. It’s obvious with this secrecy that the raises are going to be huge.
This process leaves a very short window of opportunity for citizens of Haverhill to voice any objection to what the terms will be. School committee members don’t answer their phones now!! Can you imagine what they’ll be doing during that one week after the terms are announced??
