Leroy Holden Hamel, 91, World War II Veteran

Leroy Holden Hamel, 91, lifelong resident of Haverhill, died March 16, at The Meadows, North Andover. He was the husband of 55 years of the late JoAnn Catherine (Mahoney) Hamel.

Born Sept. 3, 1924 in Haverhill, he was one of nine children of the late Napoleon and Clarabelle (Hanks) Hamel. Hamel attended Haverhill Trade School, was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army, and worked for many years as a general manager at National Stay Manufacturing. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and he especially loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He is survived by two daughters, Rosalind Cronin and her husband Denis and Mary Ellen Hamel; four grandchildren, Rebekah Pfeil and her husband Chad, Devin Cronin and his wife Caitlin, Daniel Orlando and his fiancé Melissa Ludwig and Ysabella Orlando; three great-grandchildren, Abigail, Teagan and Callen; sister, Thelma Praiano; brother, Charles Hamel; along with numerous nieces and nephews and his devoted canine companion, Chance. He was predeceased by his wife, JoAnn, sisters, Eva Trahan, Emeline Berg, Louise Kouroyen, and Jeanette Carlson, and his brothers, Edgar Hamel and John Hamel.

Visiting hours at the Monument Square Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family-Carnevale Funeral Home, 334 Main St., Haverhill, will be Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to noon, immediately followed by funeral services at the funeral home at noon.
