Gerard G. Martin, 85, Owned Martin Distinctive Flooring

gerard_martinGerard G. Martin, 85, of Haverhill, husband of the late Lorraine (Mascarito) Martin, passed away Wednesday, March 16 at Holy Family at Merrimack Valley surrounded by his family.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Roseanna (Hevey) Martin. He attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School and was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1948. He was a long time parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church and All Saints Parish. Martin was employed at the former Western Electric, North Andover, as a layout operator and then retired from Lucent Technologies in 1991. He was also employed at Shamrock Liquors. Martin was a co-owner of Martin Distinctive Flooring in Haverhill. He was a member of the Victor Emmanuel Lodge 1646 and the Sons of Italy Drum and Bugle Corp, where he served as president of both. He enjoyed marching the Corp for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Liberty Club. Martin was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He also enjoyed attending Boston College football games and Haverhill High School football games, sitting on the 50 yard line. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and treasured every moment with them, especially the holidays. His great grandson, Lucas Tyler Chute was his pride and joy.

He is survived by his daughter Marie Melanson and her companion Richard Iannalfo, of Haverhill; granddaughter Dawn Chute and her husband Dave of Haverhill; great grandson Lucas Tyler Chute of Haverhill; step granddaughter Kayla Chute; sister, Sister Therese Martin, SCO, of Lowell; brother, Rev. Normand J. Martin, SM, of Boston; former son-in-law James Melanson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Lillian P. Bentley, Yvette Vallieres and Joseph R. Martin.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Monday, March 21, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services begin Tuesday morning, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 at All Saints Parish, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, North Broadway, Haverhill.
