James L. Koloshey, 73, of Rye, N.H., passed away peacefully Monday, March 14, in the arms of his wife, Valerie.
Koloshey was born in Haverhill, April 23, 1942, son of the late Joseph J. and Mary (Zmuda) Koloshey. He was raised in Haverhill and was a 1960 graduate of Haverhill High. It was at Haverhill High where he met and fell in love with Valerie Capodelupo. They were married in 1963 while Jim was attending Merrimack College. After earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Business, the couple settled in Atkinson, H.H., and he went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Business from Northeastern University. Koloshey worked as an auditor at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard before relocating to Washington, D.C., where he spent more than 28 years with the Department of Defense. He retired in 1997 as a program director for the inspector general’s office where he directed hundreds of audits of various defense entities with a focus on fraud, waste and abuse and specializing in the intelligence and nuclear weapons programs.
Upon his retirement, the couple built their dream home on Lake Mooselookmeguntic, near Rangeley, Maine, where they lived for a number of years before returning to the N.H. Seacoast in the early 2000s. Koloshey loved to hunt and fish and was an active member of the Chester Rod & Gun Club. He and his wife were also members of the Portsmouth Elks. He was an avid history enthusiast with an emphasis on the Civil War period. One of his most recent and proudest moments was when he walked his granddaughter, Katherine, down the aisle at her wedding. He was also a lover of animals and was fortunate to always have a devoted dog by his side.
Koloshey is survived by Valerie, his wife and best friend for more than 58 years; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Suddeth of Chambersburg, Penn.; son, John M. Koloshey and his wife, Lisa of Asheville, N.C.; granddaughter, Katherine V. Stone and her husband, Matthew of Chambersburg, Penn.; step-grandchildren, Robin Carnahan and her husband Casey of Pittsburg, Penn., and Jon Farabee and his wife Sabrina of Chicago, Ill., and his German Drahthaar puppy, Greta.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 18, in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home – Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, N.H. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday at the St. Theresa Parish Church, 815 Central Road, Rye Beach. Burial will be in the Central Cemetery, Rye. Relatives and friends are invited.
