The local authors of a new book, “Armenians in the Merrimack Valley,” will answer questions and sign copies for the public at 7 p.m., Thursday March 31, at Buttonwoods Museum.
E. Philip Brown and Tom Vartabedian, who will also appear on WHAV’s Open Mike Show Monday night, will discuss the book that “boasts 200 vintage images and showcases memories of days gone by.” “Armenians of the Merrimack Valley” is the newest addition to Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series
Brown is a social studies teacher at Haverhill High School and teaches World History and History of Haverhill. He is a member of the Haverhill Historical Commission, Haverhill Citizens Hall of Fame Committee, AHEPA Acropolis Chapter 39 and Haverhill Rotary. His previous works include Haverhill, Massachusetts Trivia Book, and Haverhill Sports Hall of Fame and Trivia Book
Vartabedian was born, raised and educated in Somerville. As a writer and photographer for The Haverhill Gazette for 40 years, he garnered more than 50 awards from United Press International, Associated Press and New England Press Association before retiring in 2006. In 2002, he was presented the Master Reporter Award by the New England Society of Newspaper Editors. He is currently an Armenian School instructor into his 45th year at St. Gregory Church in North Andover and he taught Armenian language and history course at Northern Essex Community College. Vartabedian is a member of the Armenian National Committee, Armenian Genocide Education Committee and the Armenian Genocide Commemorative Committee of Merrimack Valley
