U.S. Rep. Tsongas Addresses Methuen Students Today

Congresswoman Niki Tsongas (D-Lowell).

Massachusetts Third District Congresswoman Niki Tsongas (D-Lowell) makes a brief return to academia Thursday morning to “teach a special seminar on government and politics” at Methuen High School.

Tsongas, a former teacher and college dean, will be joined by Methuen Superintendent of Schools Judith Scannell and Methuen High staff and students to teach a class of approximately 100 freshmen students at Methuen High School who have been studying American Government, including Advanced Placement Government students. She will discuss how she became involved in politics, her role as a congresswoman in governance and advocacy for the third district and the dynamics of Washington. Tsongas is also expected to answer students’ questions, according to a statement.

“Congresswoman Tsongas frequently tours and visits various organizations and communities in her District to learn about the issues important to them, and this visit will be an opportunity to return to the classroom as a former teacher and college dean to connect with Third District students interested in government and politics and share her experiences as a Congresswoman,” a spokesperson said.

Prior to being elected to Congress, Tsongas was dean of external affairs at Middlesex Community College, Lowell and Bedford.

  1. I wonder if Congresswoman Tsongas held individual meetings with students the way she does with her constituent “Town Hall Meetings” which are merely —- wait in line and see the Congresswoman privately. Is she afraid of her constituents? Afraid there will be too much opposition if she takes and answers questions in an open meeting setting?

And….. I agree with Duncan’s comments. Congress has screwed up the country to a fair-the-well, spent money it doesn’t have for ridiculous purposes based upon the theory that —- there is more where that came from, indebted our kids, grand-kids and beyond to pay for their “special projects” and other nonsense. This country is going to hell in a hand-basket, and I doubt that the country can ever revert to its former splendor.

  2. “teach a special seminar on government and politics” –

Brilliant! She could summarize her address to the students in just one sentence:

“Dear students, me and my corrupted CONgressional brethren of both Party’s have sold you and your futures out in favor of our equally corrupt & crony connected friends.”
