Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini during a recent state house ceremony.
Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini appears to have won his write-in campaign for Democratic state committeeman for the First Essex District.
While ballots are still being hand counted, Fiorentini has secured almost 400 votes in Haverhill—more than the 50-minimum required to be seated. Newburyport City Clerk Richard B. Jones told WHAV this morning the mayor received 12 votes in that city. In Methuen, he garnered eight write-in votes, according to City Clerk Christine Touma-Conway
“Only Mayor Fiorentini had any write-in votes to note and he had eight. Nobody else had anything that I even would have kept track of,” she said.
Fiorentini conducted a write-in campaign for the seat he has held for 15 years after a technical problem prevented his name from appearing on the ballot. He had no known formal opposition.
Wait? I wrote in my Golden Retriever “Maggie” (again), how was she not in the running?
Maggie mustn’t be part of the ‘canine cronyism’ crowd.
All those lap dogs running the state are a very selective bunch, you know.
I’m just going to do what they do: RACISTS! #Labrador&RetrieversMatter
